Fascinated by the intersection of science and art? Spend a day learning about the field of scientific illustration with artist and Burke Museum Ornithology Collections Manager Madison Mayfield. In this workshop, you'll receive a hands-on introduction to scientific illustration skills, practice observational drawing, and explore the topic of visual science communication. Learn to use graphite, pen and ink, and watercolor to sketch natural specimens and walk away with supplies to begin your own science-art practice at home. Open to artists of all skill levels.
Class registration fees include admission to the Whatcom Museum, all materials needed to create several scientific illustrations, and a kit of pencils and pens to continue illustrating at home. The workshop will include a 30-minute lunch break; students can bring a packed lunch or purchase lunch out.
