Celebrate fall with natural dyes in bright, autumnal hues! In this workshop, you will explore common materials like madder and weld as you learn how to create vibrant, wearable art in this introduction to dye making. Experiment with modifying natural dyes with additives like iron and calcium to produce stunning color variations.
Create unique patterns on fabric using folding and tying techniques from traditional shibori (Japanese tie dye) practices. After creating a few test pieces, you’ll jump into creating a dyed handwoven cotton fall scarf to take home.
Class registration fees include admission to the Whatcom Museum, supplies for the class, and a dyeable cotton scarf to take home with you.
Workshop registrations are final and non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you’re welcome to transfer your spot to someone else as long as you notify us 24 hours in advance. Please plan to arrive within 15 minutes of the start time. Late arrivals will not be admitted or refunded.
